How does the AI writing detector work?
Notavello's detector analyzes vocabulary patterns, sentence structure, punctuation habits, and stylistic consistency — the signals that statistically separate AI-generated text from human writing. It looks for telltale signs like overused transition words, suspiciously uniform paragraph lengths, and AI-favored vocabulary that models like ChatGPT and Claude tend to repeat.
Can it detect ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini writing?
Yes — the heuristics are tuned against common patterns across all major large language models including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and Grok. No model is perfectly distinguished from another, but common AI writing tendencies are shared across all of them.
Is this detector 100% accurate?
No AI detector is. Ours uses heuristics — statistical signals — not a trained classifier. It's a useful first pass, not a definitive verdict. Skilled human writers can score high; heavily edited AI text can score low. Always apply judgment.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. All analysis runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server. Your text never leaves your device.
How much text do I need?
At least 30 characters, but results become more reliable with 200+ words. Short snippets produce low-confidence results.
