FolderCharm Privacy Policy
The short version
FolderCharm is a local Windows desktop app for changing folder colors and adding optional badge icons. FolderCharm does not upload your folders, read your files, sell your data, track your folder contents, or create a cloud account.
FolderCharm works on folders you choose. It needs the selected folder path so it can apply or reset the custom folder icon. That path is handled locally on your computer.
What FolderCharm does
FolderCharm lets you select a Windows folder, choose a folder color, optionally choose a badge icon and badge color, and apply a custom folder icon. You can also reset a selected folder back to its normal appearance.
Information FolderCharm may process locally
To work correctly, FolderCharm may process the following information on your device:
- The path of the folder you select.
- Your selected folder color, badge icon, badge color, and folder style choices.
- Generated icon files used to apply custom folder icons.
- Basic local application settings needed for the desktop app to function.
Folder contents
FolderCharm is designed to customize folder icons. It does not need to inspect, index, upload, or analyze the files inside your folders. The app applies icon customization to the selected folder, not to the contents of that folder.
Where data is stored
FolderCharm stores generated icon files locally on your computer. It may also write or remove Windows folder customization files, such as desktop.ini, inside the selected folder when applying or resetting a custom folder icon.
FolderCharm does not provide a cloud account, remote database, external sync service, or server-side storage for folder customization data.
What FolderCharm does not collect
- FolderCharm does not collect or upload your files.
- FolderCharm does not collect or upload your folder contents.
- FolderCharm does not sell, rent, or share personal data.
- FolderCharm does not include advertising trackers.
- FolderCharm does not collect browsing history, location, health information, financial payment information, or personal communications.
- FolderCharm does not require a Notavello account.
Internet access
FolderCharm is intended to perform its folder customization work locally. The installer and release files are hosted on GitHub Releases, but the desktop app does not need to upload your selected folders or folder contents to Notavello.
Generated icons and Windows folder customization
When you apply a custom folder icon, FolderCharm generates an icon file and points Windows to that icon for the selected folder. When you reset a folder, FolderCharm attempts to remove the related folder customization and restore the folder to its normal appearance.
Third-party services
The FolderCharm desktop app does not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, remote account services, or cloud storage services for your folder customization data.
The Notavello website and GitHub download page may use their own basic infrastructure and logging. Those website services are separate from the local operation of FolderCharm on your computer.
Data sharing
FolderCharm does not sell, rent, transfer, or share user data with third parties. Any folder information you choose to expose outside the app is under your control.
Children
FolderCharm is not directed at children under 13. Notavello does not knowingly collect personal information from children through FolderCharm.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of FolderCharm after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
